In honor of the 69th anniversary of the sub-four-minute mile, Runnerd Library issues the following challenges to anyone who wants to participate.

Challenge Number 1: Gear up and head out to your local track. After warming up, head over to the start line and set a timer for 3:59. When you are ready, start the timer and see how much distance you can cover before the timer buzzes. Make note of where you are on the track and record your distance. Distance recorded on your GPS watch, phone, or other device can be submitted. Otherwise, you can provide a good faith estimate of the distance based on where you finish on the track.
Challenge Number 2: Gear up and head out to your local track. After warming up, head over to the start line for a one mile time trial. You are going to run a mile as fast as you can. Keep in mind that a mile is 1609.34m so you will have to add an additional 9.34m to your 4 laps around the track. Record your time for the mile.
Additional rules/reminders: So we are all on the same page for these challenges, start in lane one of the track. Lane one should be 400m in length. If you happen to be on a track where the distance is less than 400m in lane one then please move to the 400m lane. This is a track only challenge to keep the field level (literally and figuratively). We will have road race challenges in the future.

Once you have completed either or both challenges, submit your results on the form at the bottom of this page. Competition ends at 11:59PM Eastern Time (U.S.) on May 31, 2023. Results will be posted during the first week of June.
